May I request ebooks?
Answer
Our Virginia consortium (VIVA) offers some ebook lending. It is specific to the following academic publishers: Brill, Wiley, Oxford University Press, and Taylor & Francis. Loans come in the form of a PDF. This is a new program and there are still some quirks.
If your requested ebook is not available from these four publishers, the ILL librarian will automatically find you a printed version. Off-campus students - if you supply your mailing address in the notes field of the order form, we will mail the item out to you.
Please recognize that printed books are owned whereas ebook are licensed. Owned items can be lent/borrowed; but, licensed items cannot ... unless the lending library has a licensing agreement with the publisher.
Public Libraries have two licensed online apps for popular ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, and more: Hoopla and Libby. To log into these programs, you'll use your public library's membership card.
