Q. How long does it take to get an ILL?

Answer

Please know that the ILL staff is dedicated to getting your items as quickly as possible.  There are two factors that determine the speed of ILL fulfillment:

  1. if the lending library is within the VIVA (Virginia) Consortium, then we usually can get articles within 2 days and books within 4 days.

  2. If the lending library is out-of-state or a public library, then we usually can get articles and books within a week or so.

To know where an item is coming from, look at the "Held by" field in the item record in ALEX Discovery:  It will say either Bridgewater, Virtual Library of Virginia, or blank (Libraries worldwide).  Or, open the Availability tab in the item record to see the nearest library.

Once an order is placed, the patron will receive an email confirmation from the ILL librarian with an approximate time of arrival.
