Do you have historic regional newspapers?

Answer

Bridgewater College has some local historical newspapers on microfilm.  These are available for use in the Forrer Learning Commons. Titles include The Bridgewater Herald and The Daily News-Record.

A few historic newspapers, newspaper supplements, and scattered issues of various newspapers are available in print.  These include:  The Bridgewater Herald; The Banner: Bridgewater, 1990-1996, The Banner: Elkton, 1990 – 1996;  Gab Gazette, 1998;  Page News and Courier and Page Courier, 19th and 20th centuries; The Shenandoah Journal, 1989 – 2001;  and The Shenandoah Valley Hit, 1989 – 2000.  These are available for use by appointment in the Wampler Reading Room.

Digitized copies of some newspapers are available to faculty, staff, and students through the Forrer Learning Commons’ online databases.

Tip:  The Library of Congress’ Chronicling America database is a full-text searchable database of American newspapers.  However, it is not comprehensive of all newspapers:  https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/
