Do you have congregational histories?

Answer

Some regional Church of the Brethren congregations have placed congregational archives on deposit in the vault.  These are available for research use in the Wampler Reading Room of Special Collections.

Special Collections holds some other regional congregation records as well, such as ledgers of the Flat Rock Church.  Ask the archivist for assistance.

Historical notes on congregations are available in the papers of Roger Sappington, Reuel B. Pritchett, and other historians in the Collection.

Special Collections also holds topical files with archives on some congregations.

In addition, there is an expansive Church of the Brethren reference library.  Some of the books in the reference library are cataloged in the library catalog:  https://libguides.bridgewater.edu/

Special Collections’ Brethren reference library books are available for use in the Wampler Reading Room of Special Collections by appointment. Brethren Circulating Books can be checked out by those with a library card.

We also hold the records of the Southeast District and Northantlanic Conference.  These mostly contain materials from the 20th century.
