Do you have materials on the Brethren and conscientious objection?

Answer

Special Collections has a nice compiled collection of primary sources regarding the Civilian Public Service program of WWII.

The papers of Bridgewater College President Paul H. Bowman detail his peace work on a national scale.  Several sets of Paul Bowman’s papers are held in Special Collections.

The Tracy Wine Civilian Public Service photograph album, 1943 – 1945 is a good source.  Here is the catalog record:  https://bridgewater.pastperfectonline.com/archive/FB8DED54-E7F1-4C66-955E-102854313314

The Brethren Southeastern District Records contain some original materials on peace work.

Brethren Life and Thought (periodical), The Brethren Encyclopedia, and the Annual Conference Minutes may be of value in research.

In addition, the Brethren Reference Library has books on the Brethren and peace work.
