Are there old graves on the Bridgewater College campus?
Answer
Bridgewater College has two gravestones, however, there are no bodies with them. According to the Bridgewater College history book by Francis Fry Wayland, Bridgewater College purchased land in 1958 that had the gravestones of John Dinkel (1771 - 1855) and his wife Christena Dinkel (1775- 1853). They were among the founders of the town of Bridgewater.
The bodies were likely moved sometime before transfer to the the College. A survey of the land before the College built in that area showed that no bodies are located there.
Some crowdsourced websites state that a 19th century couple with the surname of Webb are buried on the Bridgewater College campus. This appears to be incorrect information.
